Having recently relocated to Roseburg, Prayer Rock Academy is pleased to share that our new name is now Geneva Academy. The school’s former name reflected its once close association with Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards in Umpqua. Despite the new name and new location, little else about the Academy has changed. The school continues to provide the quality academics and adherence to Biblical teaching for which Prayer Rock Academy has become known.
The name change reflects the school’s distinctive classical Christian education, which revives the learning methods used to teach America’s founding fathers. The practice of integrating subjects like Latin, Logic, Science, and Literature in a Christian worldview can be traced back to the Protestant Reformation in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Geneva Academy Board wants the new name to echo the school’s founding mission, which is to bring back the best teaching practices of Christian Western civilization. Geneva Academy aims to develop scholars who will graciously lead in their own families, communities, and professional disciplines as great men and women did of old.
Geneva Academy is the only classical and Christian school in Douglas County and one of four in Oregon.
The Academy moved from Umpqua to Roseburg in November 2012 to be more centrally located the families and churches it serves.
